A non-profit organization with 10+ locations discovered that each office was handling its employment processes differently. It became glaringly obvious one week when looking at the Sunday employment ads and they found that 3 different locations advertised the same position in 3 separate ads.
The ads were laid out differently, the job titles were similar but not identical and the ads did not look alike. Not only was this error expensive, but it gave the appearance that the right hand didnt know what the left hand was doing with its hiring and the impression was correct.
So, they brought me in to research the various employment processes in place and to assess the situation. Once all the information was collected, I was able to design a single process for every office to follow. Our new process began with how managers were to handle job openings as they arose, notify the centralized HR administrator, and create/update ADA compliant job specifications.
I designed a more meaningful employment ad with a single look for each location to use that was coordinated with HR, so that only one ad would run rather than multiple ads.
I then developed a screening and interviewing process, scripting core interview questions for their interview questionnaires. We also created candidate evaluation and reference check forms.
Once the project was complete, we pulled all the managers together for a full day of training and rolled out the entire program, with each manager receiving a complete Employment Guidelines Manual to follow. All the corresponding materials were placed on their Intranet for easy use.
